Kathmandu: With an aim to address internal shortcomings within the Nepali Congress and revive the party’s foundational ideology, the Late Pradeep Giri Sansthan has launched an interaction series titled ‘Idea of Congress’.
The program, inaugurated in the capital on Saturday, focuses on the party’s political direction, structural challenges, decision-making processes and strategies to strengthen the organization. The initiative is expected to give fresh momentum to the party.
Speaking at the event, youth leader Sachin Timalsina highlighted that out of the 2.8 million votes the party secured, only 900,000 are formal members, describing the rest as “well-wishers”. He stressed the need to listen to their voices. Timalsina criticized long-standing structural weaknesses, ambiguity in ticket distribution, and even the leadership’s joint proposal with the UML to ban social media, calling it contrary to the core principles of the Congress.
Another youth leader, Kanchan Jha, informed that the discussion brought together more than 100 young democrats from across the country. He added that professionals from diverse sectors — doctors, engineers, lawyers, social activists and filmmakers — engaged in an open debate on the party’s ideological foundations, identity and present political role. According to Jha, such dialogues will help reinforce the party’s ideological clarity.
The Sansthan will compile the ideas, suggestions and analyses collected from the interactions into a detailed report, which will be submitted to the central leadership of the Nepali Congress. It is expected that this report will support the party in shaping its future strategy, policy direction and organizational reform.
